Paradise, Aloha?
#1
After meeting all the wonderful people I have recently met in this Forum as well as KonaWeb forum, I feel absolutely no doubt in my final decision to make Hawaii my home this year. The book Affordable Paradise was recommended by several people in the Forums as an answer to many of my questions in the move to Hawaii. I received the book today and have just started to read it. I originally thought the book would talk mostly about the "technicalities" of moving to the island. I figured I would be reading advertisement for services and material things. However, in reading just the first couple of pages it has already helped me feel a new sense of foundation in my decision to move my family (especially my twins) to the island. It has also helped me feel like I have discovered a new part of me. I have known Hawaii is where I wanted to spend the rest of my life in from the moment I stepped foot on the island 5 years ago. Nevertheless, I have not been able to pinpoint what exactly made me so crazy about that "feeling" I got while I was visiting. The first few pages of this book described my sensation to the T!

“Each of us sees “the Dream” differently. To some, it’s being able to spend lots of time on beautiful white sand beaches and never again having to think about “going back home.” To others, it’s the sumptuous weather and never again having to burn anything to keep warm. Or it’s the quiet, gracious, simple and unhurried lifestyle. And to others still, it’s as simple as this: It feels good. It feels good to every one of our senses, psychological, physical and spiritual.”

“To us, it is all of these things. It is somehow so easy and natural to stay grounded here, and there is just “something in the air” that is a constant, gentle reminder that keeps us on our spiritual pat. This is a simple lie where friends matter more than timetables, where inner peace and aloha come easy.”

“It feels so good to us to be among these wonderful people of many cultures who all seem to be of one big loving family. The color of your skin, the kind of car you drive, the size of your home-none of these things matter here. What’s in your heart is all that matters.

I realize that the underlying sense that there was "magic" in the air was not as far fetched as I thought. The description of Aloha in this book could not be more accurate. The funny thing is that I have been searching (all my life) for a permanent feeling of "Aloha" without ever knowing that Aloha is what I felt and what I wanted. I found the final piece of the puzzle that is my journey to Hawaii in this book, and I can not THANK those that recommended the book to me enough! Referring to Hawaii as "paradise" should not be regarded as a generalization simply because it is an island. Rather it should be noted that there is more to paradise than sun, fun, palms and a beach. That GENUINE "magic” in the air that is incredibly infectious is what makes paradise, paradise and unless Aloha is in the air there is no paradise. I think that is the reason why I continue to read that Hawaii is not for everyone. You can not want to move here for a permanent vacation. In order to adjust and feel “at home” you must want it from the inside out. I am happy to be one of those that passionately wants it from the inside out.
