FoPF Meeting - Nov. 8 in Pahoa Village
#1
Friends of Puna’s Future
PCDP-
“Amend It” Program

You are cordially invited to participate in a community process to Amend the Puna Community Development Plan.

With the Puna Community development Plan (PCDP) having been passed by the Hawaii County Council into law it is important to remember that the plan has it’s flaws and amendments will indeed be needed.

Friends of Puna’s Future is committed to bringing together those who have participated in the PCDP process and those who are now ready to do so. All stake holders, large and small, will be invited to participate. If you are reading this and reside in or own property in Puna District of Hawaii County then you may now consider yourself invited.

A series of public meetings have been scheduled with the last being:

Pahoa Village
CommunityCenter
November 8th 2-5 pm.

These first meetings will be informational and organizational. It is FoPF’s intention to form up to four new working committees (WC) modeled upon the four sections of the PCDP FInal Draft. These are:

Malama I Ka Aina
Managing Growth
Transportation
Implementation

FoPF expects this effort to take place over several months extending into 2009. All participants of this effort will be asked to become Participating Members of Friends of Puna’s Future. No dues or fees are required. We look forward to the process of meeting more of our neighbors and engaging in a friendly community building effort.

With a new county council seating this winter there will be pressure to remove or water down the PCDP.

For more information email: FoPF <friendsofpuna1@mail.com>or call: 965-9779

With the election now out of the way the implementation of the Puna CDP as well as Kona, Kohala and Kau will be greatly affected by new players on council and in county departments. Emily Naeole, who has voted very erratically on the CDP, retains her seat. The stances of our new council members are not yet understood.

Community participation is what created the PCDP and is exactly what will bring it to implementation.

I do hope you attend this meeting.

My partner and I attended the last meting, held in Volcano. Very interesting and informative! Met some good folks of the local community there, too. IMHO it it will be well worth the time to attend this upcoming meeting if a person has not already attended one of these -and maybe even if a person already has attended one, too.

Good meeting tonight.

Fair turn-out.

Was good to see a former District 5 Council Candidate stay for awhile.

(She asked who provided the refreshments... I told her FoPF and she mentioned making a contribution. I gave her a pamphlet, would be nice if she did participate further)

Nice to meet a few people I haven't met before. [8D]

Damon, you ran off to quick, I did not get to properly introduce myself...

I was the loud mouth siting behind you.

I was wondering who was kicking the back of my seat through the entire ride[Big Grin]

You should have said something Jon! I didn't recognize you without your 10 Gallon hat and Shltkickers!

Was that your wife with you as well?

Next time... instead of just kicking my chair... you better mention something.

I learned my lesson with Jerry the last time when i walked up to him and asked him if his name was Jon because he was wearing a Texas Hat and Shirt.

You blend into the puna folk very well... and for a loud mouth Texan... you sure seemed fairly quiet!

LOL...

I did not want to make a scene, I figured if I said anything during the meeting it might have got loud... [Smile]

and as far as blending in, I am not sure if that is a complement or not.... [Wink]

Ah... Behind every good man... there is an even better woman.

I stuck around long enough to put away a few chairs... That's longer then I normally stay at some functions[Big Grin]
