Yipee! After two years of my husband Ron living and working on the Big Island and me living and working in Californa while we sold our house, we are finally ready to be together again. House is sold and we load the container for the move on Dec. 30th. I almost can't believe I finally get to be there!
Just one question so far - - does anyone have an idea or recommendation for what to use for a ramp for loading and unloading the container, since it is so high off the ground?
Also, we will have a small amount of room in the container if anyone has something they would like to send over. We are loading in Roseville, CA (Sacramento area) and unloading in Hawaiian Shores Rec.

i had to move a quad and some big stuff when i came so i made ramps out of 16' 2x12 with 2x6s nailed on the side like a big U , put some sand paint on them so there not slippery
used a rope tied to the quad to pull the rest of the stuff up the ramp

You can rent a flatbed truck with a hydraulic lift gate and back it up to the container.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Thanks, both ideas sound good and I'll check them out. We do have a pickup truck at both locations, I am wondering if we could just load into the pickup truck, then into the container. Do you think that would work?

Thanks. I searched but have not been able to find the ramp offer topic. We don't have a lot of heavy stuff, so I think we will just try to handle it with "manual labor". We do have a pickup truck at both locations, so if need be we can lift into the pickup truck, then into the container. I can't wait to be there!

I have also used a sturdy fiberglas ladder as a ramp. I slide things down it. Of course, I have no idea what you are unloading. I do suggest you have a short ladder to climb up and down from the container.... much safer.

Gloria,
Congratulations on your move and being here full time with Ron.
When Judy and I unloaded a container last April, we rented a ramp from Puna Rentals in the Shipman Industrial Park. With the ramp and a hand truck, the unloading went smoothly. The ramp will support at least 1,000 ilbs. and was about $40 to rent.
If you would like help with the unloading, just let us know.

Wes, thanks for your kind offer of help. I will keep that in mind and let you know.
Also thanks to everyone for all the suggestions and ideas. I hope you get to meet more of you once I am there. It's been a long two years!
