Puna rainy season

About when does it start and end? I have some friends want to go and I'd like to appear knowledgeable []
From what I've observed it is generally from December to Mid-March....

To the best of my knoweledge and memory, it starts whenever the tradewind pattern is disrupted. This happens more in the winter months than summer, and can result in drought as well as deluge. There is no set "season" as occurs where Monsoon weather happens.

It's all about the relative position of the N. Pacific high, which migrates north and south seasonally. If you watch it, you can't miss what's going on here in Puna.

Following is a good link to average rain fall MSN weather chart. Looks like November & February are rainiest months based on averages. If you compare to Kona side (looks bone dry over there, ha).

There are no wet / dry seasons.
Nov - March is time of winter storms across the Hawaiian chain.
This impacts leeward sides the most. East Hawaii is pretty constant year round if you view long term weather data. Last few years have not been average. 10" a month is a good average at 400ft elevation.
The sugar plantations had weather stations every few miles with data going back to early 1900. I saw some reports from Puna Sugar around 1985, dont know where they could be found now.

I forget who clued me into this merchandise --someone in the gay potluck group, I think. I bought one of the t-shirts online. It really is a neat design. As per post above, it appears they are available in Hilo as well.
