#1
Anyone know why the civil defense sirens are about to go off?

It's not the normal day for them.[?]

It's announced on NPR radio station right before the sound came that this is a test.

This is probably because yesterday (the usual test day, being the first) was a legal holiday, and the public sector workers all had the day off. Makes you wonder what would happen if we had a tsunami or something on a public holiday.

Cheers,

some of us might drown...

but more than likely we would all be just fine as some of us would see the warning on TV or hear it on the Radio and take the needed steps to get people out of the low lands...

The monthly testing of the sirens would have little or nothing to do with an emergency siren which would be activated by the Hawaii Tsunami Warning Center on Oahu.
Assume the best and ask questions.

I just have to wonder if they would work during a power outage?[?]

I know the sirens themselves would work... but would the link from Oahu to the Big Island kick in?

If its a mile from why I live, I might have to dog paddle to shore...

I don't know how things would pan out, but I know that my self any 5 or 10 others that are bright enough to get our families headed up hill and then we head down hill to see who needs help.
