Don't go with a pinfinder. One of my clients did a few years ago and the guy found the pins for the wrong lot. Get a staking from a survey company.

The Independent Hawaii Surveyors. LLC did mine in Eden Roc. Their pnone # is 808-959-0360. I have only ever worked with one surveyor, them, so I don't know how they measure up against any others, but I am confidant that the pins are in the right places. It was a relatively painless process except for writing the check, two lots end to end for $520.

I have worked with IHS several times, they are reputable.

Mahalo to evveryone for the info. We went with IHS, they have a flat rate and seem to be most reasonable others were waay high. Good to hear others have had a good experience with them. Lot is very dense and I think they are going to earn their money.

We used Island Boundary, the guy's name is Evan. He found the pins, cut our boundary lines and provided a stamped survey drawing, 40% less $$ than IHS's quote. We would use again. 808-345-1561. www.islandboundary.com

He might have the experience, but he is not a licensed surveyor, so his "stamped survey drawing" is worthless. I can't understand how people can spend tens/hundreds of thousands of dollars on a property but not willing to spend an extra few hundred dollars to hire a licensed surveyor instead of "Uncle Joe" who claims o be a pinfinder.

I think with a little intuition about where your lot is. . (like 3rd lot on left), and you know the dimensions of the lots, then you can have some idea where your lot is. Then you hire a pinfinder, and he "finds pins" (yes there are actually pins there), and the lot boundaries are the exact dimensions of your lot, . . .but somehow John, you're telling me that these pins could perhaps be in the middle of my lot? Or even that I am so stupid that I am now building on the wrong lot? And in this case, it wasn't "a few hundred" but $980, so if you like, you can just donate an extra $1000 to your buddies at IHS. I'm happy with the job done. This guy is not "uncle joe", as you apparently know who he is, you know he has experience. . AND BTW, the survey drawing I received is stamped by a LICENSED HAWAII SURVEYOR. Geez, people really like to rip into anyone who threatens their gravy train (or that of their friends). Just trying to help PW'ers have some consumer choices here.
