Marijuana potency
#1
I don't indulge, but I don't hold it against anyone who does. That said, this is a popular topic on this forum so I thought I'd toss this one out. When a friend of mine was spending some of his medical residency in an emergency room, he expressed to me that he'd never seen a patient come into the hospital from an accident where marijuana intoxication was a contributing factor. There are debatable reasons for that, but the important point was that he had formed his opinion from direct evidence.

CNN is running a story this morning http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/05/14/mar...index.html that reports that the marijuana today is tested as much different than it was a few years ago.

So what does that mean to the opinion expressed all those years ago?

I don't know what it was just a few years ago, but I quit smoking many years ago, just too much of a light weight! A few weeks back in an attempt to get my wife's appetite up, I ask my neighbor for a joint. He was very careful about rolling it and used bottled water to seal the paper so not to pass anything on to Cathie. I brought it back to her and she just looked at for about an hour. Finally she "tried" to light it. I ended up having to get it started and passed it over to her. Then out of the blue,"I want you to smoke it with me."[:0] I have to tell you.... I now remember why I gave it up!![xx(][xx(] Cathie got a big buzz[:p] but didn't get any help with her appetite.[V] I, on the other hand got so messed up and so hungry. Then I ate some dry crackers, OOPS!! Forgot how dry your mouth could get and completely impossible to swallow![Big Grin] Lots of water!! That was one wasted afternoon! I'll leave it to the others to smoke thank you! If it is getting stronger than what I experienced then I'm thinking we may be safe on the roads. Will still have to watch out for the drunks[:o)] but I don't think a person smoking would be able to find keys or the car!![Big Grin][Big Grin][Big Grin]

Royall what a light weight! LMAO Two summers ago at a party I tried one hit, whoa "what is that" went thru my mind. I couldn't believe the difference from the 60's, and wondered if it was laced with something very addictive! Well no it was just genetically altered Mendocino green! Laughed so hard that I thought I might break something! Luckily we were swimming and didn't get the munchies!

Glad Cathie was able to give it a good old college try. My dear Bob, someone who took full advantage of the 60's wouldn't touch a dobie to save his soul when it might have given him a helping hand in the appetite department.

Sending all the best of wishes and prayers on the wind.

Mella and Royall,
My ex-wife used to smoke just about evey day after work. Like I said, I never did, but didn't really care if she did. I don't think it messed her up much, but that was about 15 years ago. Maybe these days the stuff is so strong she'd be on the floor.

Love, tender care and prayers, what more can one do.

Brian you bet she'd be on the floor, it is so powerful, so if she has the opportunity, be sure to have a safety net! Really no foolin here!

I've been hearing about the increased potency issue for 20 years, and I've always been confused as to why the cops, media, and crusaders used the subject as a rallying point against legalization.

Back then, one of the big arguments against smoking weed was that smoking a joint was more unhealthy than smoking a pack of cigarettes. There was talk about the amount of tar and other things but no one had any data to support the statement, but let's say it was true!!! Most people smoke until they get the desired effect and then stop, so wouldn't greater potency = less smoking, therefore making use of the weed less unhealthy? In addition, there is no talk of price per ounce or whatever and if it were the same, wouldn't the cost per use go down dramatically which, in turn, would eat into the profits of the dealer because they wouldn't be selling as much?

So much talk on the subject lately...

Well personally I'm 3 months past the cigarettes, but I wouldn't pass up a whiff of the chronic! LOL

I don't know if it's stronger or not but if I were to hit on one now after 30 years it would probably knock me on my butt and seem stronger.

You watch, I think they will legalize it within the next ten years. The feds know there is just to much tax money to be made.

First of all, cannabis is a medicine. THC is now proven to kill cancer cells, cannabinoids protect the brain after stroke, protect against nerve gas, and much more. If it was discovered today in a remote valley somewhere by big pharma prospectors, it would be hailed as a panacea because it helps so many different ailments. It is a crime to keep this safe and effective medicine that you can grow for pennies in your garden from the people. Pot is not genetically modified to my knowledge, but growers and breeders have developed many strains over the past decades, and some has much higher THC, and that is the best kind for medicinal use. Virtually everything the public was told about cannabis was wrong. The side effect of euphoria and time expansion is welcomed by many, and has never killed anyone, unlike all the synthetic drugs.
