Tool Shed Permit?
#1
Hi all,
Just curious, is there a size limit for sheds that if you stay below a certain square footage you won't need a permit? For example, there were some counties in California that you could build a 10'x14' structure with no permit required. Any thoughts?

I'm planning on pouring concrete for the posts, so it's a little bit more permnanent than buying a prefab shed. As always there are the setback requirements that would be followed.

Mahalo,

that is true on maui but our county i believe is not the sq footage but the height. anything over 6 feet high needs a permit. period. if you are signed off on your house and have great neighbors then i wouldnt bother if it is really just a small shed.

From the UBC Sec. 106.2.1 Work Exempt from Permit:

One-story detached accessory buildings used as tool and storage sheds, playhouses and similar uses, provided the projected roof area does not exceed 120 square feet.
Assume the best and ask questions.
