Stolen goods at garage sale

Did any of you see this in today's Tribune Herald?

Perhaps some of the things that were ripped off from Punaweb folks might have been part of the haul.

Might be worth checking out.

What I don't get is why they let him go without charges when he was caught red-handed???!!!???

It was on KGMB news also. They mentioned Aulii st. Bet they don't know the Perp was let go pending further investigation.
I'm curious though...just what else do they need to investigate before they lock this low life up.

There is always the uncle's cousin's nephew defense angle. I believe who are they related to plays a role in who gets prosecuted, charged, or let go.

Despicable. Over and over again. Some of these jerks have been arrested and released 20 or 30 times and are still on the streets...I just will never understand that mentality! (Thanks for letting me vent.)[Sad!][Sad!]

When a person is arrested, state law sets a time period for that person to be formally charged or they have to be released. When a person is relased "pending further investiagtion" normally the evidence and facts are clouded and additional time is needed to sort through the information and make a stronger case.

Having read the Hawaii County police blotter several times it seems that it's standard procedure rather than the exception in Hawaii. In Hawaii how long after an arrest do they have to charge the suspect before he/she must be released. In Florida it's 21 days. I don't see the point in arresting and then releasing without charging as a normal procedure. Jail crowding maybe?

This is wild - 150,000 $ worth of stuff. He was found to have meth on hand. Dollars to donuts this guy was trading drugs for stolen goods - and converting those to cash at yard sales - lord knows what was sold on ebay. I think that is what the cops are looking at …. I don’t think this guy stole a thing. I do believe however he encouraged others to steal by feeding their addictions. Let’s hope the cops are trying to get it right … receiving stolen property just won’t cut it.

I think it's like many other states. One time if in custody (maybe 72 hours) and another if arrested but released & not in custody (maybe 20 something days). This was a drug arrest that uncovered another crime, so they may not have been prepared to deal with the stolen property and didn't want to risk having the case or evidence thrown out by rushing. It could be the "released pending further investigation" means the person is cooperating.
