Horses in Puna
#1
Aloha,
Been lurking for some time, have got lots of great info, mahalo to all of you!!

We have a trip planned for sept 4th - 10th and will be staying @ Island Paradise Inn. We are looking for areas to live !! (1 1/2 yr.s from now). We have horses & dogs and will be shipping them as well.

Where should we start looking? Do most sub.s allow livestock? should we rule anything out right away? I hope to make the best use of time looking for the short time we are there. Any advise would be welcome .

Rick J.

Most subdivisions will allow horses, with the exceptions being Hawaiian Shores Recreation Estates, Leilani Estates and Nanawale. You'd be fine in most areas (like Hawaiian Paradise Park or Orchidland).

Horse lover Sarah is involved (heavily)into horses and the club there on eastside. She works at the UH at Hilo. She has a couple horses and can put you in touch with others in the club also. Maybe when you are there you will be able to attend a meeting.
She lives in Kaumana and gave out her number on the other forum.
Call her at Sarah Blanchard 934-9246 or email "Sarah Blanchard" <sarah@wolf-den.com> . She will know all about different aspects of them on the island and give you great answers! Important too to find a vet and all.....

Aloha,
Lucy
