Anyone know what the condition of this street is recently? We're thinking of renting a house there again later this year. The last time we rented a house right across from the tidepools we could barely drive down Wai'opae because of the deep, deep potholes. Don't want to wreck that rental car.

Because of all of the red tape involved, the road cannot be repaired at this time.
However it appears the high tides have filled in a lot of the potholes.
Rent a suv.

They are working with the County to try to get permission to repair and raise it a little. Because its a special management area, that is taking quite some time.

I am a member of the toyota 4wd forum (
http://www.fjcruiserforums.com) One of the big island members just posted photos of a rusted out frame - vehicle is less than 3 years old. It looks like it has been in the ocean all that time.
I would consider potential rust damage to your vehicle if you run it through the salt water pot holes on a regular basis, toyota denied the warranty.
There is something very caustic in this salt water, hawaii sailboats also have the reputation of having severe corrosion after being out here a while. This warm (rumored) higher salt content tropical salt water is harder on metal than most locations
