Chocolate Trees
#1
Some time ago I asked about finding cacao trees but have lost their email. Well, I'm ready now. Does anybody know of someone selling cacao in Puna?

Does anyone have experience with small backyard gardening of cacao? Such as, can you have a few trees and harvest, process yourself and have enough for example making a chocolate sauce for personal use? Or does one have to have lots and lots of cacao trees to produce much of anything. (sorry, I'm unfamiliar with cacao, but really interested in it.)

And then, I dreamt of Hawaii... http://crazypineappledream.blogspot.com/
Enjoy the day! Ann

I have a small (very small) cacao orchard in Leilani. I planted from a pod I bought at a farmers market about 8 years ago. Now have about 20 producing trees. The trees are thriving at 950', are just coming into bloom. Have not had much luck so far with making chocolate, it's very involved, time consuming & messy to do at home in small batches, much harder than coffee. Rats are a big problem, destroyed all of the last crop. I do have some potted seedlings for $5, also coffee trees and 4 node vanilla cuttings. Email me thru Punaweb if you're interested.

Ah, thanks, this was a while back when I was building my house. I'm ready now to get serious about chocolate trees.
