Tree removal for wood
#1
About a few months ago there was a listing about removing suitable trees for free in return for the wood, either here or Craigslist. I tried a search and did not find anything, which probably means I did not use the right words!

We have a row of tall Norfolk pines right along 22nd in HPP and our rental agent says they cut down air circulation and make the house dark. I am looking for a cheap way to remove them safely and without liability problems.
Thanks for any help.

Depending on the diameters and height those trees may be worth a pretty penny as lumber. Don't give them away.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Big Island Woodturners would be all over that.

Thanks for the info. I have not really paid any attention to their DBH, but they were already trees of probably more than 20 feet when we bought the house 20 years ago. I will contact Big Island Woodturners and see what they say.

Maybe they will take the BIG albizias way in back also - LOL.

Some years back I removed a large Norfolk Pine and had the tree milled into lumber from which I made all my home's cabinets. I gave some short stump and branch pieces to a bowl turner who, to my surprise, rewarded me with a large, finely turned wood bowl.

Norfolk Pine is a lovely wood with lots of color and character.

Assume the best and ask questions.

allen,
Doubt they'll want the albizia, guess it doesn't hurt to ask, tho'.

Will they take ironwood?

Woodturners are primarily looking for large diameter pieces. There is evidently one type of albezia, though rare, that they are interested in.

Try Don Albrecht at hawaiiwoodturner@yahoo.com His work is really incredible, and his Wife makes beautiful smaller pieces.

Hi Jane, Don's my neighbor, I called him about this yesterday, but he wasn't interested. He doesn't like working with it so much. Smile Angela
