Don't need Las Vegas, Gambling in Hilo!!
#1
Just go to the Prince Kuhio Stadium Cinemas in Hilo...go inside the movie theatre and head on over to the children's arcade, once in there you will find slot machines that will take $1.00 on up to $100 dollars and you can play until your money runs out. In the event that you should possibly win...just hit the cash out button and give the receipt to the attendant or cashier and they will give you cash for your winnings. What a convenient way to teach our children the joys of gambling!! Should they lose all their money...Oh well...you win some and you lose some.

Does anyone else think this is a little bizarre?

There is an "all slot machine" parlor in Hilo too. It is in the shopping center where the Love's Bread store is on Manono, it has a name like Lucky 777. Actually, to kids video games and "amusements" are the same thing as gambling anyway, they get points and rack them up for free games etc. It is the predecessor to getting kids addicted to gambling. Ever been to a Chuckie Cheese?" Kids get tickets there when they win games and turn them in for prizes, that is no different than gambling.

If they don't have a craps table, I'm not interested.

LOL centipede! Maybe if we had the Power Ball here I would still have a job, no?

(Just kidding - don't pummel me with scathing anti-gambling stuff please.)

Downsides of gambling.....added addiction and realted problems.
Upside additional revenues. In Colorado lottery and gambling casinos basically pays for up keep of our State Park system and other programs that would not otherwise be funded and creates jobs that would not be there otherwise.

Gambling abuse, like drug abuse, depends upon the individual, and I'll go so far as to say that genetics may be involved. For me, it's entertainment. I was in Vegas recently, and keep records for each gambling session. In the 5 days I was there, I had 8 sessions lasting a total of 8+ hours and lost $18.00, and the entertainment (mostly from watching others, many of whom were compulsive [degenerate] gamblers) was educational as well as being priceless. It's my belief that if you're going to lose, you can't possibly bring enough money and if you're going to win, you don't need a lot. I am fortunate in that it works for me, and wish there was gambling here so that I can help the local economy and save myself loads of cash for the airfare, hotels, and car rentals I spend for 8 lousy hours of gambling, and the money that many of the degenerate Big Island gamblers blow in Vegas would blow it here instead, which would include the extra expenditures that I outlined above.

It was with great interest that I read the replies to my statement regarding gambling. I lived in Las Vegas for over 32 years, 30 of those years I earned my living as a Realtor. I was raising 5 children and this was a good way to plan my time around theirs.
I saw a lot of changes during that time, I saw a lot of what gambling could bring to a state. Las Vegas built many, many new schools as well as hospitals with the latest and best equiptment. The infrastructure was building non-stop. All due to the benefits of gambling.
Then there is the other side. One couple came from New York, always had lived in mobile homes but somehow had acquired $40000 to put down on a non-qualifying FHA loan, some homes still had them at the time and the house had low monthly payments. They were so excited about living in a "real" house. The wife would be the bread winner as the husband was disabled. She was a practical nurse and finding employment would be easy. I did know she liked those dollar slots.
I don't know what happened to them, but the house was foreclosed less than a year later.
Another couple came out from Ohio with their two very handsome young teenage sons. They wanted to start a business and bought a home, again a no-qualifying loan. I saw the wife about 3 years later in a grocery store. They'd lost the business, lost the home, lost the youngest teen in an ATV accident and lost the older teen in a drug deal gone bad.
The most common thing is someone going to the grocery store for a loaf of bread or a gallon of milk. Just sit and spend a roll of quarters at the slot machines before shopping. They go home with an empty grocery bag and an empty wallet.Unfortunatly, stories such as these are not uncommon.
Bringing gaming to Hawaii would bring incredible riches....but be careful for what you wish.
