Here we come! Container is 99% loaded and the one-way tickets have been purchased! After thirty years in this house, we'll find ourselves at home in Puna on Friday. It's been quite an adventure, but thanks to the people here on Punaweb, the journey has been much easier. Many of you might not know us, but we've been here, quietly since we discovered the site four years ago. Our bamboo shack is now mostly finished and we look forward to sharing our home with everyone as soon as we're settled. Aloha, Ralph & Ed.

Thank you all for the good wishes. Royall, it may not be the NEXT Punaweb party, but we'll do our best to make that happen! Still have rose paper on the bamboo floors- I left the house in February and haven't been back since. Once we get everything cleaned up we look forward to hosting a great party!
Carey, thanks for holding our palm babies. Black and White Nite sounds great- just hope we have the energy to go back into Hilo the day we arrive! It's going to be so nice to finally be home, I may not want to go out for weeks, with the exception to Pam's to pick up some dirt (you offered when we met in the Walmart parking lot! How are the new joints doing, you two?)
Seriously, does any one have a suggestion or a recommendation for some movers to help unload our container? It's a bit embarrassing, but our 20' container has very little air inside: we had a very good friend pack it and it is FULL. The help we will need is with the very heavy pieces, namely our table saw and tool chest. We can do it, but some professional movers would make it easier.
Looking forward to seeing and meeting you all. Aloha!

Welcome and congrats!
In the past I've used Big Isle Moving & Draying for local moves, because they charge a bit less. Some of their guys are good and one or two are not so good. Normally the company that picks up your container at the port and brings it to your property also unloads, and charges by the hour for the entire thing ... you are not transporting your own container, are you? So that's a starting point.
Professional movers charge by the hour whether they are standing around or picking things up, in my experience, so unless your heavy pieces are right there when they open the container, you might as well get them to whisk the stuff out of the container.
I never had the option to use the movers for a partial unload, as the container transport needed to be done in one trip, both ways. They bring the container, unload, remove container ... unless you have bought the container. So I'm not understanding the whole picture of how you have planned this.
Note: on the California side we had Matson do the container drop off and pick up, while we hired mover friends for packing the container only, but on the Hawai'i side, Matson did not offer delivery to our site. Young Brothers brought the container into port and it was all on us from there.
I see there a couple new to me local movers in the phone book. One is Express Movers, who say they beat any estimate and no move too small. 557-0300. Also Town & Country Moving & Storage at 969-1911,

Thanks to you Noel, Paul, Devany and Rich. Ed said no way are we going to want to go out Friday- we'll still be hugging the bamboo poles that are our house for a few days! I'll still work on him about it, but we will be rolling around in cinder for the first few hours (the Pope kisses the tarmac, we roll in cinder..... wakes up the skin!) I'm sure Glen will appreciate this homage to Pele!
