Greetings,
I live near fern forest in deep soil. And by deep soil, I mean deep mud as we've been pulling up strawberry guava. I'd like to put in a little grass to soak up the water, bind up the soil, and as future food for livestock. Can anyone recommend any specific types of grass that would be good for those applications AND where to get it?
Thank you in advance!

Find sprigs of grass growing nearby and transplant them into the area. That way the grass is preselected as one which will grow in your area. If you check the mature grass before transplanting it, you can get one which will grow to the height you want it too. Some grasses are more nutritious than others, for animal forage.
I've tried planting grass and grazing seeds from the feed store and the germination rate was really low to non-existent. Transplanting sprigs of grass has had a much better success rate. Garden Exchange and Paradise Plants have flats of grass, you can get a couple flats and make them into grass plugs.

Yogi,
{I take that back, their customer service sucks}
Anyhow, if you find a grass that'll work and you're buying it, ask if stolones will work {which is basically grass root all clipped up that you spread, cheaper, faster and you can see the area you cover when you put it down.-Say you wanted to leave paths to walk thru.
Are you guys doing well? We think of ya often.
