Favorite podcasts?
#1
Noticing the interesting replies to the top 5 movies thread, I was wondering if anyone would share their favorite podcasts. There are such a glut of them, that I'm sure there are some great ones I have no idea about.

Here are my faves...(all available via iTunes)

Filmspotting. Two guys discuss current movies and usually have a historical theme going on as well. Intelligent, but not annoyingly "highbrow".

Uh Yeah Dude. Completely irreverent take on the tiny current events by "two American Americans". Kinda hard to pigeonhole, and a bit stoner-ish, but it's the first podcast I usually fire up on the iPod.

More or Less: Behind the Stats. A bit esoteric, I suppose, but I enjoy the discussion of how statistics are used and abused in politics, news, etc.

My History Can Beat Up Your Politics. Amateur historian mixes straight dives into a particular historic subject (almost always USA political) and threads about current politics in a historical perspective.

All the NPR podcasts including Fresh Air, Car Talk, Science Friday, Talk of the Nation, etc.

PRI's To the Best of Our Knowledge

This Week in Science. Two graduate students from UC-Davis ramble about new studies they found interesting.

And some favorite vidcasts...

Scam School. A guy shows how to do bar tricks. Sounds stupid, I know, but it is incredibly watchable and fun.

Onion News Network. Spoofs news reports, often hilarious.

Circuits with David Pogue. NYT tech writer does entertaining videos on the latest tech trends.

Apple Quick Tips. Rarely much longer than a minute. Quick visuals on OSX features.

In any case, I think the whole podcast/vidcast world is a great, but relatively underutilized, freebee. I can barely even mow without them. Wink

Hoping we can share out, if anyone else here is into them...Wink

Still looking for a decent "Peak Oil" podcast, too.

Cheers,

Oh, and has anyone found a good Hawaii or big island podcast as well (to keep this thread local).

Intersting start to a thread, I'm suprised this didn't get more responses. Thanks for the suggestions.

There is one Hawaii-related podcast that I found:

"Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park" podcast, which is a video podcast.

Some of the interesting audio podcasts that I follow:

Radiogirl: variety of guests, variety of topics

The Laura Ingraham Show: sensible and entertaining commentary

The Dave Ramsey Show: personal finance

The Clark Howard Show: personal finance

The Adam Carolla Podcast: a bit crass, but very entertaining depending on the guest

Armstrong and Getty: funny discussion of politics and news

Great Topic I'm always longing for something intelligent and/or intertaining to listen to. I am a huge fan of NPR for a long time, also. One of my favorite there being "This Ameican life" with Ira Glass. Have a couple of season of T.V broadcast on Video as well. Like a true artist is able to make the most basic and simple object look so interesting, Ira has the talent to do that with everyday people's lives.

though podcasting is near four years old. I'm sure there is a good amount of Punawebbers who know nothing of podcasting, or what it is. Not to say that that's a good thing, or bad, just an observation.

Since I am unable to watch certain cable shows due to my sateliite contract, I use podcasting to watch my favorite progressives shows(Rachel Maddow Show & Countdown, both on MSNBC) that I normally can't watch. The best part with podcast, I can view or listen to them when ever I want!

Other podcast I listen to:

1.) John Doe Radio Show(medical cannabis show out of colorado)

2.) Time for HEmp(pro hemp & medical cannabis show)

3.) Pacific Coast Hellway(progressive shock podcast)

OK beachboy, You've hit the nail on the head. I know nothing of podcasting even though my ipod is an important part of my daily routine. I look at it like carrying a stereo with a couple hundred CD's in my pocket. My studio is equiped with a large guitar amp that I can plug it into. [8D]

How does it work? Do you download to computer, then to device?
Do you need high speed?

Thanks

oh brah you are missing out! Podcasting is online audio content that is delivered via an RSS feed. Another words, if you have iTunes it's super easy. You donwload podcast onto your computer via iTunes...then you upload them to your iPod and enjoy them when ever you want! Apple dummy downs the whole process to make it easy.

Greg, I highly recommend that you get into podcasting.....you'll love it!
