Noticing the interesting replies to the top 5 movies thread, I was wondering if anyone would share their favorite podcasts. There are such a glut of them, that I'm sure there are some great ones I have no idea about.
Here are my faves...(all available via iTunes)
Filmspotting. Two guys discuss current movies and usually have a historical theme going on as well. Intelligent, but not annoyingly "highbrow".
Uh Yeah Dude. Completely irreverent take on the tiny current events by "two American Americans". Kinda hard to pigeonhole, and a bit stoner-ish, but it's the first podcast I usually fire up on the iPod.
More or Less: Behind the Stats. A bit esoteric, I suppose, but I enjoy the discussion of how statistics are used and abused in politics, news, etc.
My History Can Beat Up Your Politics. Amateur historian mixes straight dives into a particular historic subject (almost always USA political) and threads about current politics in a historical perspective.
All the NPR podcasts including Fresh Air, Car Talk, Science Friday, Talk of the Nation, etc.
PRI's To the Best of Our Knowledge
This Week in Science. Two graduate students from UC-Davis ramble about new studies they found interesting.
And some favorite vidcasts...
Scam School. A guy shows how to do bar tricks. Sounds stupid, I know, but it is incredibly watchable and fun.
Onion News Network. Spoofs news reports, often hilarious.
Circuits with David Pogue. NYT tech writer does entertaining videos on the latest tech trends.
Apple Quick Tips. Rarely much longer than a minute. Quick visuals on OSX features.
In any case, I think the whole podcast/vidcast world is a great, but relatively underutilized, freebee. I can barely even mow without them.
Hoping we can share out, if anyone else here is into them...
Still looking for a decent "Peak Oil" podcast, too.
Cheers,
Kirt
