It appears at the moment a tsunami has been generated but its not known yet if it's local or Pacific-wide. Latest magnitude is 8.6 which is massive.

COORDINATES - 36.1 SOUTH 72.6 WEST
LOCATION - NEAR COAST OF CENTRAL CHILE
MAGNITUDE - 8.5 MOMENT

EVALUATION

THE PACIFIC TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER HAS ISSUED AN EXPANDING
REGIONAL TSUNAMI WARNING AND WATCH FOR PARTS OF THE PACIFIC
LOCATED CLOSER TO THE EARTHQUAKE. AN EVALUATION OF THE PACIFIC
WIDE TSUNAMI THREAT IS UNDERWAY AND THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT
HAWAII COULD BE ELEVATED TO A WATCH OR WARNING STATUS.

Take care Kat and all you coastal people!
Took my car into town and got gas just in case because it was on fumes.
Saying prayers for the people near the epicenter. 6.9 aftershocks and a definite tsunami generated.

On another note, just heard CNN newsguy say the dumbest remark:
