Does anyone know if they grow on this side of the island? If so, where do they do the best?

I have a huge one that produces pups which I sell at the HPP Swap Meet. They do very well almost anywhere down here in the below 500' elevations of HPP, but I don't know about farther up the mountain where they get the very highest rainfall.

Hi Jerry,
We met you and Bear at a HPP meeting on block-watch in January 2009. We were staying at Glen's VRBO at the time. We are currently on the BI for a couple of weeks, without the wonderful pool and hot tub that Glen's place had though, and no bunny either :-(, and wondered when the next swap meet at HPP was scheduled for.

Aloha Aki and Laura,
The next HPP Swap Meet is next Saturday, April 10 from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Activity Center where the Neighborhood Watch meeting was held. If you are still here, please come by and see us.

Cheers,
Jerry

Jerry - How much do you sell your "pups" for? And how often is the Swap Meet?

The HPP Swap Meet is the second Saturday of each month. I usually sell the smaller agave (1 gallon pots) for about $4 and the larger (2 gal.) ones for $8-10. I will only have one or two of each size this month, but more will be ready later. They get really big, so allow an area about 12 feet across for full growth. Also, the type I sell is the "mean" one with really sharp, stiff points.

Awesome. I'll try to get down. And what type of agave do you have, Jerry?

I think mine are one of the "americana" varieties sometimes referred to as "Spanish bayonnettes." They are solid green, upright, and quite spiny.

Are these the plants that have elephant trunks for blooms? I saw them in Waiamea if they are the same ones. I love them they look like they came right out of a DR. Seuss book!

NO, really? Assume the best!
