BLOG HELP Please
#1
I am very interested in starting up a blog that will document our move from Oahu and the entire process of the move and building of the new home in Puna. From moving to purchase of land to clearing of land to etc etc and show the entire building process that others can find usefull. Plus give kudos to those that were in the process with contacts which make it easier for those that are interested in the move to the big island like we are doing. A sort of lessons learned and one that others can also contribute to it.

My problem is I need to know which is the easiest blog programs to use here on the internet since I am not as smart as a third grader in this world of computers hahahahha.

I have looked at a lot of members blogs and other blogs I have found on the net. I find all of them to be great and would love to be able to provide this type of information and get more involved in the blogging world.

any suggestions are welcomed.

If you hope to one day make some money from the website, then you want your own domain name. If it's just for fun and/or to get information out there, then the yourblog.genericfreeblog.com is fine.

If you get your own domain, find a host that has cpanel with fantastico installed. Via fantastico, you can then install wordpress in seconds which is, in my opinion, the best free blog software out there.

I actually had hoped you would have gotten a lot more responses to your question. I too am interested in the free online blogging choices, but have yet to actually do anything as scientific as sign up for a bunch of them so as to create my own comparison analysis. so when I saw your question asked I had high hopes of seeing a stream of responses, especially considering how many of PW readers have blogs!

my real question is ease of use. I have heard horror stories about wordpress, some happier accounts from people on blogger, but in general people seem to report that the user experience for the blogger him/her self greatly varies from not understanding how to do things to there's not enough choices of things to do.

I hope your adventure into blogging goes great.. and can't wait to be a visitor to your site once you have one. but! please do report back on your experiences, good or bad! I am sure there are several (albeit sitting on the sidelines for now... silently) people here interested in blogging themselves and would gain greatly by any insights you gather from your experience.

I answered this in the other forum. I just cut and pasted my answer below. I am a web host and I will be happy to help you and provide support for you and answer all your questions. I provide the software mentioned by Yogi above and I offer a 30 day money back guarantee no questions asked. My prices are reasonable (I meet or beat prices from other local companies) and I can create a custom account for you at a price to suit your needs. Here is my website: http://www.DaKineHosting.com.

There are plenty of free blogging services. You can try something like www.blogger.com. The upside is it is free and there are plenty of help and support. The down side is that you will have their advertising on your blog site. Also, your URL will be something like http://YOURNAME.blogspot.com.

Or you can purchase an inexpensive web hosting account with a reputable web host and they will provide you with two or three of the more popular blogging software that has auto installation. So if you are a newbie you can set up and install it yourself. A good webhost will also be happy to help you or do it for you. The downside is it will cost you a small monthly fee. The upside is you won't have outside advertising on your site, you can use your own domain name like http://www.YOURNAME.com. Another upside is that if you decide to add a website or do another blog or a totally different website with a different domain name you can use your existing web hosting account at no additional cost.

I am a web host and I can help you if you like. You can e-mail me at Dave@DaKineHosting.com. If you mention PunaWeb I'll give you a discount on hosting or I will create a custom hosting package specifically to your needs.

Mahalo for your consideration.
Dave

I've used Blogger and Wordpress for my blog http://thekonablog.wordpress.com/. Wordpress has a lot more features, such as better page view tracking over blogger. Overall, I switched from Blogger to Wordpress about 3 years ago. I would never go back to Blogger.
