Just got a call from Cat - there is a huge backup on Highway 11 from the Bypass to Hilo...avoid it if you can...don't know if it's an accident or what...been sitting 20 minutes already.

They were working on the right side when I went through at 8:15, had that lane closed and it was already backing up pretty bad. Just got home a few minutes ago and it was backed up to the light.

Thanks so much for the update. I was going to swing in real quick before I picked up my son from school. You just saved me loads of stress. Smile

In some cities they have a phone # for the traffic condition where you can get informed about ongoing problem.Anything similar in Hilo?

Wish I'd read your post earlier. Was going to Hilo, saw the traffic and turned around.

Nope. But I am pleased to see this traffic notice on PW and encourage others to keep people informed of such things.

There's new service that texts/emails traffic alerts. I haven't used it yet but would be interested to hear from anyone who uses it if this recent Hwy 11 backup showed up.

Info on the service: http://www.co.hawaii.hi.us/cd/message.htm

I signed up for that a few months ago. No, they didn't report that Highway 11 problem. We got daily updates on the fire at Kona.

I think that service specialises in planned disruptions.

Go figure this one.

from Robin C:

Our council made texts against the law in autos so you can just sit in that traffic.
