What's the best and least expensive way to ship my vehicle? Any recommendations, companies you dealt with and how long did it take to get to Hawaii?

Thanks

Or Honolulu Freight. They let you ship stuff inside your car too!

There are only three companies that actually ship vehicles; Matson, Pasha and Horizon. ALL others that claim they ship are merely brokers and your vehicle will end up on one of those three companies ships anyway. Using a broker is not always a good idea. They may hold onto your vehicle at the port until they have enough other vehicles in order to get a better volume discount.

I shipped with Matson last year, out of Oakland and the vehicle arrived as clean as it was when I shipped it. Matson has a relatively new, designed just for vehicles, ship that keeps them inside, away from the elements.

I thought Pasha and Horizon were the same. The question should be modified by the location of where to exactly. I believe to ship to Kawaihae on the West side of the island all vehicles will go to Honolulu first and shipped by Matson on an open ship between Honolulu and Kawaihae.

We shipped two vehicles from Baltimore to Hilo last year, and service was first-rate. Pasha also has ships that keep all vehicles inside, out of the elements.

They are/were a broker, as are hundreds of others. That is why you had a barge from Honolulu to Big Island and why they were cheaper. They consolidate loads.

CSX changed to Horizon in some fashion years ago I think. We used Horizon from Atlanta - excellent

Cost me nothing to transport my vehicle from the mainland to here...although it helps having a brother who's been a Matson Captain serving the Hawaiian Islands for the past 10 years. I also get free passage to and from the mainland if I don't mind the 5 day crossing! Smile
