Vacationland photos/Inspections passed!
#1
Aloha Friends,

We wanted to share photos of our house in Vacationland that is under construction.
The house is being constructed by Joe Clark who was referred by Puna Webber lquade. His work speaks for itself.

I want to thank my neighbor Phil and his wife Yayoi for taking pictures for us.

We passed electrical, plumbing, and today framing!

Mahalo and Aloha, Tony

It's looking nice Tony. What is your square footage? Is it a custom design or a builder's plan?

Mahalo Susan and David,

The house was originally a Trojan home design that we changed significantly. Upstairs is 1,350 sq. ft. of living space and 600 sq. ft. of lanai. Downstairs will be unfinished storage space for now.

Tony,
How long has this taken so far?
We will be scouting contractors March next year for our house, looks like Joe may be a contender!

Eightfingers,
I'm building as an owner/builder, but I must give credit where it is due. The following are professionals that I have used in chronological order. All have been referred to me by Puna Webbers.

Plans, permits, and materials through Julia and Ray at Trojan/HPM; 6 months due to my location only 7ft above sea level/very close to tide pools.

Nash Engineering for elevation study, health dept engineering for septic 1-2 weeks, Nash used to work for county(this helps) and his wife Zelda is very nice with great communication.

I Dig Hawaii/Kevin Hill prepped lot and installed septic 1-2 weeks max. Also helpful in saving me rocks to finish my rock wall.

Drainpipe plumbing so far very good with price and scheduling, they are about to do their thing.

Ross Iwamoto electrician, also about to do his thing, and very good with price and scheduling.

Joe Clark better known as "Joe the Framer" was referred to me by Puna Webber lquade, Joe and his crew did my concrete foundation and has constructed our house to this point in less than four weeks, working M-F. He is fast, efficient, AFFORDABLE, and works like a typical Texan...very hard.

Soon I will be putting together my costs and comments on the building process, and I will be glad to share this information. I've also heard many good things about other professionals, so do ask for referrals and costs. I wish I had more time to gather and plan, but my wife and I got caught up in the moment and just went for it. We came for a visit in October, purchased a lot in November, and started the plan/permit process in December, and then changed our minds and started the permit/plan process all over again in January. We are appreciative for all the help our fellow Puna Webbers have provided.

Hope this helps, Aloha Tony

Tony,

Looks like you made some great decisions and it also looks like the project will turn out fantastic. Can't wait to see the finished product. Look forward to seeing you and the wife on your next visit.

Aloha Friends,

Drainpipe came out today for the plumbing rough in, hope everything went well. I'm not sure if anyone noticed the tea leave design in the railing, just one of the extra touches that Joe put in. He has come up with many suggestions that I didn't think of..like an outside shower for rinsing after snorkeling and making slight adjustments so that the plumber and electrician can do their jobs easier.

Mahalo Kapohocat for Randall's number, I spoke with him about getting me a quote. I'm considering asking a few neighbors if they want some tree trimmed...LOL..might be able to squeeze out a little more water view.LOL

Punagirl did you say working vacation for Bob, I still haven't contacted any tilers yet...

See you next month Don.

Best to all, Tony
