New Lava tour out of Kalapana...
#1
I'm wondering if anyone has taken that new lava tour leaving from Kalapana across from the Kava bar. Just noticed them doing tours from there last night and haven't seen them there previously. There were several Roberts Tour buses and other tour vehicles parked at the Kalapana Village Cafe which was typical during the day but not during the evening hours. That’s got to be a couple mile trek across the old flows to get to there.

So is this a legal tour, or does anyone care?
Leigh Hilbert is warning people how unstable the ocean entry is in his blog. Is this tour going out onto the shelf?

Legal Tour?

By legal I meant not trespassing and not in area closed by Civil Defense. As to safe, they are going after dark with flashlights on no clear trail, but whatever--some can do that better than others. The NPS always told people to stay away from the new land, was that just a scare tactic?

It is as safe as anything else on this island. I went across the "legal" way last week. long hike, hot dry, but as long as you don't try to get closer than about 1/2 mile, you are as safe.

I had the impression the tour was going To the ocean entry, not 1/2 mile away, but the description may have been misleading. I was asking to see if anyone knows where exactly Kalapana Lava tours is going, how close. I know it was after dark and with flashlights on something less than a trail.

i just posted about the coastal hike below, its relatively easy to do on your own, by the time to get to the new beach you have a good vantage point beyond that the ground does start to get warmer Smile
