The Tea Party is in the news today. Haven't heard much about them in Hawaii; I do see there is a Kona chapter. Will they have any influence here?

They already have a lunatic fringe fundamentalist candidate in Aiona (and Hanneman too really), so what more could they ask for?

Yeah, the Tea Party is alive and doing very well in Puna. We and our friends have been out holding signs and standing up for conservative values several times in this election cycle. We meet with each other numerous times each month and are seeing more people joining with us almost daily.
Haven't had this much fun since our days of handing out copies of "The Conscience of a Conservative" books during the AUH2O days. Home of the "Just for Keiki" Luau show. See: http://justforkeiki.blogspot.com/

Thanks for the info and I'm glad you're having fun. Does the Tea Party have a list of endorsements?

I think unfortunately Tea Party fighting a losing battle in Hawaii. remember at the turn of the century not the last one but the real previous turn of the century Hawaii was coveted by major powers for the strategic location which is why Hawaii can compete for federal funds.
Neil Abercrombie when he was in Congress threatened to hold up Obama's plan to pare down the defense budget. And of course has successful conduit from Washington- http://www.dmzhawaii.org/?p=5031 I draw federal paycheck at Tripler and I would have voted for Mass senator Scott Brown in spite of his position to freeze federal pay- the madness has to stop! Good thing for the anomity of the web- they have a fertility clinic at tripler?? I don't know how that happened. When you think about the important hospital work- little kids on chemo, old folk with CHF- can't see how the fertility clinic fit in. I couldn't take my work seriously if I worked there- go on 2 hour coffee break sandbag the results- 200 sperms, 2000 sperms. Other people want to make friends- I just want to make money. James Cramer

I think the tea party has some relevance in the financial/fiscal world, just like the Green Party has some relevance in the environmental world but I see too many extremists in both. I, too, would like to see which candidates the Tea Party endorses in Hawaii County and state races and reasoning for same.

There is no "Tea Party". Instead, there are right wing Republicans who vote Republican. No one on the ballot has "Tea Party" by their name. This is just the Republican party rebranding itself. A self-described "tea party" member has no "tea party" candidate to vote for: Just right wingers who want to destroy government and make America safe for international corporations to pay American laborers what workers in India get paid.

You are right. I was trying to avoid saying the "R" word....
