Buying a lot in Hawaiian Beaches/Shores
#1
Can anyone tell me about Kahakai Bvd. / Mahimahi St. It is a corner Lot. This would be the MAIN road into the subdivision. Thinking about buying in this area.

Anyone here care to comment on how BUSY that road really is? The area? I suppose being a corner lot you could build in the back of the lot and it wouldn't be too bad till it got really developed. I think the lot is like 90feet x 160 feet.

I'm sorry if this post holds not interest to some people but I couldn't find any other place to ask this question.

Thank You for your input! I appreciate it!

I don't live on Kahakai, but it is a busy street. I did live on Kaloli in a rental house & hated it. The traffic noise was constant, difficult to talk on the phone sometimes, like a background din all the time. I found myself stressed (clenched teeth, tight shoulders) even though I wasn't conscious of the noise after a while. Now I live on a dead end in HPP & love the silence. I'm used to coqui frogs, but traffic noise is different somehow. 90 X 160, you wouldn't be able to set the house very far back, maybe tree cover in the front would help.

I agree with Dory. There is a stretch of rental houses right in that area and there is always some idiot in a lowered whatever car running up and down Kahakai with really loud music playing. The Pre- school on the corner gets busy too. The trucks with the big tires make the road "hum" when they approach which is really annoying. Anyway, good luck.

Make that a very busy street. It's the only street in from 130 to the four subdivisions there. I stayed at a house a few lots in from Makuu several months ago, and the noise was constant, and even worse at night. Knowing that Makuu is not nearly as busy as Kahakai, I can imagine how bad the noise would be there!

We live in Hawaiian Shores and we are up from Kahakai on the other side of a loop. It's something we can hear all the time. I wouldn't live any closer. At night you can hear them racing down Kahakai and it is LOUD.

IMHO living right on Kahakai would be the most unrestful, loud place to live. Not to mention trying to get onto Kahakai 'cause people do not follow the 35 mph limit.

Sorry to slam it, but hope this helps.

Having said that ericlp, where we are living is nice 'cause we are NOT right on the main drag. We don't hear loud, constant drone but a fast moving vehicle with high-prof tires every now and again.

We mostly hear the birds and coqui and kids down the street LOL!!!

We really like living in HSRE...it's nice here.

I would like to echo Carrie. I live in Hawaiian Shores and love the area. But, one has to pick the location, keeping in mind the neighbors, the proximity to Kahakai, and the general neighborhood. There are a lot of choices, but the end of a dead end street has lots of advantages.

Good luck in your search.
