Hubby and I went to PVC yesterday for lunch and ended up walking out. All the furniture seemed to have been replaced by 1964 Vegas-style high-back blue naugahyde (which had holes in it) chairs on wheels (which almost went out from under me btw), no one was around to wait on us, no bartender, nothing. Four guys were watching tv in the bar. We sat down and waited for a few minutes (table was dirty, natch) then gave up and went down to Black Rock.
Is PVC under new ownership? Whattup??

Wow - 13 days and no replies. I guess nobody's going to PVC these days. We had two bad experiences before this (rancid butter on toast at breakfast -- which I see they don't serve anymore; and a bad piece of fish at dinner a separate time). Maybe they're just going to concentrate on Kalapana?
Hear the guy "Jose" still in the radio advertising so he is still there ( ASSuming not ANOTHER JOSE : ) but the overall vibe seems different now ... Have not been in though.

They now have 3 locations, including one in Hilo in the Waiakea Villas complex, and have had some staff changeover as well. The menu is now smaller and they pulled my favorite dinner, but the salad choices are better. They are also closing at 7 unless they have entertainment. I was surprised to see what looked like bartenders hired through a temp agency setting up the bar, instead of the usual bartenders, before the Pato Baton show. Lots of empty spaces on the bar too, like they had stocked the new place from the old bar. Friends who work in all the downtown Pahoa restaurants tell me business is way down this year.

Saw last night as we drove by they have cordoned off the area to the left as you enter -- which was where we always ate -- with a bamboo barrier. Don't know what that means though.
