The obvious response is that most gun deaths are not accidental. They are homicides, both justifiable and not. However, we are a violent culture and have been since inception. Many of the homicides would occur regardless of gun possession but we must admit that many would not. I believe that most homicides are a result of deficiencies in the criminal justice system which leave criminals free that have already demonstrated their need to be incarcerated. These deficiencies are caused by a combination of: judges that have an unrealistic perception of society, lawyers turned legislators who have those same unrealistic views and/or political agendas and a cultural breakdown resulting in jurors making verdicts based on issues other than guilt. I could go on. I'm not totally objective and own multiple firearms.
