Yep. An interesting read.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Hmmm.....but that would require palm trees. Where would we get palm trees?......hmmm.......Oh yeah, Malaysia!

Oil palms are now being planted in various locations on this island, through a project led by UHH.
The seed were purchased in Costa Rica.
Malaysia is not so inclined to share their seedstock.
The article points out the distinction of using biofuels for transportation versus electricity generation. This is important. It will be interesting to see how the market develops -- will electricity generation and transportation compete for and influence the price of biofuels?

btw: palm oil is edible -- that is the market traditionally served by Costa Rica and Malaysia and other tropical locations.

I think the article does a good job pointing out how the price of energy is related and impacted by each and every one of us. Yes cooking oil is important so is jet fuel and enough electricity to watch Opra (in this culture)

We really need to take the planning out of the hands of the liquid fuel (oil) folks if we are to find a solution.

Last I checked - Hawaii had lots of unused solar wind and wave energy up for grabs - very little oil potential.... if and when we grow bio energy crops - has anyone stopped long enough to figure out - it too is solar energy? why not just go to the source and call it good - grin
