Shots hit two Volcano homes

Police are investigating two shooting incidents in Volcano late Tuesday night.

Responding to an 11 p.m. call, Puna patrol officers discovered that two houses on Mokuna Street in the Royal Hawaiian Estates subdivision appeared to have been hit by gunfire.

People were at home in both residences but no one was injured, said Acting Lt. Reed Mahuna. He said that no bullets were recovered from either house.

There were no descriptions of the shooters, he said, and police have not determined a motive for the shootings, which were classified as first-degree reckless endangering.

"We're aggressively investigating this case, and we're definitely looking for the public's help if there's any information that could lead us to the responsible parties."

Police ask that anyone with information call Detective Brian Miller at 966-5835. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

Crime Stoppers is run by citizen volunteers who want to keep their communities safe. Crime Stoppers doesn't record calls or subscribe to caller ID. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
