but i am new to the island
and noticed recently that my cupboards are full of these little black
tiny round dots... i am wondering what is that? is that roach poop? i do see giant roaches here and there come in...i just sprayed the whole house to kill them off, but then... could it be gekkos poop? how does one control these gekkos here if that's the case? or are these black dots something else? sorry to ask this, just never seen it on the mainland.

thank you

It sounds like cockroaches, friends recommend the Harris roach tablets You can put the tablets in cabinets and other locations. If you have animals, make sure the tablets out of their reach.

I will not kill a gecko and I don't mind if they are in the house[Smile]
If they bother you, try drop a cloth over and scoop the gecko up and move it outside.

For roaches I have had good success with placing boric acid tablets in cupboards and corners. It is not toxic and works. Cheap too. Add more every few months. You should find them at any hardware store.

Not gross. Just the tropics.
Assume the best and ask questions.

thanks all for suggestions.
i don't like killing gekkos at all as well. just wonder if those little
black dots is their poop, that part is hard to take on my spoons and forks. i might just end up keeping all the silverwear in the topperwear, sealed. can't stand the thought of things crowling on them.
i have boric acid on the floor and behind cupboards, but it doesn't seem to faze the big roaches, i think they just laugh and shrug it off.
but it does seem to help with the small roaches. will check into tablets. thanks again.

I took the doors off my cabinets and converted them to "shelves". Much easier to stay on top of. My next kitchen will be commercial style with tile floors with drains. Stainless counters; and wheeled stainless racks for utensils and cookware.

Once every few weeks; just roll everything out and pressure wash!

LOL, I'm right there with ya on that one Greg ... The whole house should be "hoseable" ! Good place to start with regular kitchen is hang SS dishrack right over the sink.

the stainless steel everything might be a very good idea... though may make the house very wet, humid from all that water.... not sure if its a good idea for mold reasons... i live up the mountain and it rains a lot.
i am in my bedroom now and i can smell the mold already somewhat... people must do some serious spraying i think to keep the roaches away. anyone had any experience with diatomaceous earth sprinkled around under the house?

To keep on top of mold, let light into everything & keep the air moving everywhere.... if you do have a dark closet with no air flow, you may want to look at getting a closet drying bar that plugs in & heats up a bit...

Gecko & anole poop is more bird like in color & acidity, and about the size of an oblong pencil top eraser

The small round dropping may be termite frass (droppings), kinda like coffee grounds....

When we moved into our house we were infested with the big flying roaches. I had the heebie jeebies for months after we finally licked the little buggers! In addition to boric acid and liberal use of slippa's and sneaker soles, we also placed lots of Hoyhoy traps around the house in places frequented by roaches. Hoyhoys are little boxes with bait that entices the roaches in, and sticky floors that keeps them from getting out. We actually saw a roach do a quick u-turn and run into a freshly positioned Hoyhoy. Hoyhoys even work for the big roaches, tho occasionally one will only get partially in or out, and will drag the hoyhoy across the floor. This does, however, improve your odds for the effective use of slippas and sneaker soles... You can get them at Longs and other places around town. Good luck!

Toads. You're property needs more toads.

Construct little places for them to live. They like to hide under rock structures in the daytime. They eat plenty bugs!

We got em. We like em.
