I really need to get away from work for a few days to spend some quality time with my husband, who has been very patient about how much I have been focused on work this year. Has anyone stayed at the Keauhou Outrigger? They are running a pretty good Kama'aina deal right now. Any other ideas? I cannot afford someplace like the Fairmount Orchid or Mauna Lani, but would like a little low key comfort with hints of luxury for 2 nights.

The Hilton Waikaloa. They have pretty good Kama'aina specials also right now. And they are outside the vog zone most of the time whereas the Outrigger is right in the middle of the vog!

Last several times I've gone over I've stayed at the Royal Kona. Kamaaina rates was 95 bucks (with out an ocean view) and included free parking. They are closer to the things I enjoy doing while over there. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Nice pool, a bar close to the pool, and an expensive restaurant. The cost of a room with a partial view was about 10-15 bucks more.
Have fun Carol wherever you end up!

Carol,
Nothing beats the Hapuna Prince for alone together time, IMO. $139 Kamaaina rate but they are now tacking on a self-parking fee.

Advantages of Outrigger: right next to great snorkeling (but go early) and a nice buffet breakfast that is often included in the price. Also hula and other cultural events. Historic site.

I love the Keauhou Outrigger. Book a basic room and go for an upgrade when you check in. The open lounge is tops for the sunset and is built up above the tidepools. Restaraunt is not the best. Splashers in Kailua is pretty godd for the $. Kona Inn or Quinns or Fishopper too for grinds.

Got the Sheraton Keahou recently for $94 on priceline. $15 parking/wi-fi fee. Kept the bid to resorts only, bid $74, and it said if I increased the bid $20 I'd get something. I was very happy there. Got an ocean view room when it only guaranteed mountain view. Have also gotten the Paniolo Greens condo complex in Waikoloa Village for $80, which was very nice, but of course not on the water.
Also price out the newly Renovated King Kam.
I like bidding Priceline. The rooms won't be ocean view, but price can't be beat.
and the room can be upgraded if they really do stick you in the cheap seats.

I was amazed at how nice the "new" King Kam is. The new decor is very classy and tropical at the same time. The location can't be beat.....we like being able to walk to all the restaurants without the hassle of parking along Ali'i Dr.

I agree with the Hapuna and sometimes they will waive the parking fee and almost always give you a free upgrade.
