Hwy 130 - Poor roads planning and construction
#1
Hwy 130 near Orchidland and Paradise. I wonder who did the hwy marker lines in this area? They are so crooked. Is this the final paint job? If that is final, I wonder how such a terrible job could have been approved?

On a similar note, the intersection of Hwy 130 and Pahoa bypass road is a total nightmare. I avoid that area at all costs, not only because it is extremely dangerous, but is the most disorganized, confusing set of roads, turn offs, curbs, etc. The person who designed that and/or approved it should be fired and/or sued. How does such poor work get okay'd?

They're spending money down there, but it is totally being wasted on poor design and execution. Who is to be held responsible for this crap?

You are preaching to the choir. [Big Grin]

But it would be great if our investigative reporters and our bloggers investigated this issue.

I too would love to see the name of the person where the buck stopped for these messes.

Not to worry, it’s only temporary tape that will be removed when the permanent stripping is installed.
You should try putting that tape down with cars zipping by at 60 mph

The crooked lines are bad enough, but in trying to "improve" the Orchidland/130 intersection, I think the planners/road constructors actually made the intersection worse. The right turn lane off 130 was shifted so that it now increasingly obscures the view for people turning off Orchidland. And the center "holding" lane on 130 seems shorter, which makes getting into position to merge onto 130 more of a "threading the needle" proposition.

Kahunascott - thanks for the info, i hope it is correct. although, the assumed danger of the performing this job should not be an excuse for a poor job - there are measures that can be put in place to make it safer. what if the person that built your house told you it fell apart due to poor hammering because a hammer can smash your thumb? you'd get a new carpenter, wouldn't you?

KeeauRich - are there any traffic lights planned for Hwy 130? even if they are not planned for Orchidland, but rather Paradise or Kaloli, that would help ease traffic to allow for easier turns on/off of Orchidland. hopefully Smile

It's temporary tape. Temporary. Hammers and nails are not a good analogy.

LOL, good catch bluesboy. Been wondering the same thing myself.

Are the crooked markers on Kahakai temporary too? If so, how long does "temporary" last?

But the burning question is, what would a good analogy be in this situation? Smile

Maybe rough sketch vs Mona Lisa?

Then I'm still waiting for Kahakai to turn its "rough sketch" into the Mona Lisa of boulevards!

That said, my driving skills are good enough to overcome crooked lines. Don't suppose it helps the drunks and impaired drivers much, though.
