Rumor has it that a McDonald's is going to be built across from the Pahoa post office. Has anyone heard this? or is something else going to be built there?

Those burgers, being immortal, don't reincarnate!
We don't need non-reincarnating burgers in Pahoa. Two thumbs down. Lee Eisenstein http://members.cruzio.com/~lionel/event

Since we're speaking of rumors...when I was at Dominos in Hilo last week...one of the employees said that someone is looking into a second Dominos takeout in Orchidland!
If that's true...pizza delivery into all of HPP and Orchidland will be a reality!

It's possible that years ago, ROb Tucker was right on when he suggested a design committee for Pahoa. Pahoa Suburbia hell here we come.
And dont get me wrong, I do buy Mc Donald's unsweetened $1.00 - 16 oz ice teas when I go to Hilo. Lots of ice, no lemon.... key word is "Hilo".

My name is Royall, and I eat at McDonald's.[:0][:p] OK, I don't eat there often but the food, even though it's not that great for us,[xx(] is predictable (like Denney's)and it is fast. If I'm running late in the morning, I won't hesitate to go through the drive-up for a breakfast sandwich, hash browns, and coffee.[:p] If I'm in town, I like to grab a cheese burger, small fries, and a small soda off the dollar menu in the Walmart building. I get a kick sitting there and people watch![:0][
![]() ![]() ![]() I don't think McD's should be in downtown Pahoa, it is congested enough already[ ![]() ![]() ![]() Now these are just one old fart's view. Hope I don't get flamed for sharing![^][V] Royall Hale O Na Mea Pa`ani

There are 3 different issues here: traffic flow and congestion, esthetics of design and construction matching the feel of old Pahoa village, and the desirability of fast food restaurants in general.
The only one of these that currently has laws and governmental rules covering what can and can't be done is traffic flow and congestion. The issue of esthetics currently has no law behind it, but some companies will voluntarily try to fit in with the local flavor (Longs sort of tried), especially if the community gets involved early in the process. Regardless of anyone's personal opinion on the desirability of fast food or McDonalds, you only get to vote with your personal wallet. Our constitution does not allow laws that govern what kind of junk people sell, buy, or eat, as long as food safety and handling rules are followed, so if McDonalds wants to build in Pahoa they can. If you want to patronize them you can, if you don't want them here you can vote by not giving them your money. Carol
