Cost of Energy- Campaign to "Go Green"
#1
The cost of energy here in Hawaii has continued to climb in recent years. Most families are now paying $250-500 a month to have power. Some families are paying more, if, they are paying on their loan for their power poles.
So, most families are paying $550 or more for rent & $250 or more for power, that's $800.00 just to have a place to live! It is disturbing, to think, they haven't even paid for food, insurance, etc.
No wonder more people are becoming homeless and hungry in this economy and sadly, turning to crime.
The cost of our gas, propane and electricity, here in Hawaii has to change. We need to find a way, to end the suppression of clean energy resources and stop the energy providing corporations from using resources that are no longer cost effective for consumers.

After, reading an article about the "White House" having solar panels installed by President Carter, then they were removed by President Reagan, it made me mad to think, they have catered to the oil companies and have polluted our environment and it could have been avoided. Solar has been around for 3 decades, but we are just now, Campaigning "Go Green" to stimulate the economy. Obama campaigned for clean energy, yet, XL Pipeline is in motion to destroy our environment and harm the health of millions of people.
Why have we waited, so long, to make solar affordable to help reduce carbon effect and reduce cost for energy for consumers? Greed..
It makes me mad, that they put profit over our environment and our wellbeing. [Sad!]

There have been patented energy solutions introduced, but, they have never been introduced, to the public, because it would put the oil companies out of business.
Imagine a car that runs on water. Yes, there's a patent that exist.

So, what do we do to change these disturbing facts and end the energy corruption going on?

That's cheap! Where can I get a place for $800, power included?

I guess it's too late to get Solindra panels installed at the White House.

I'd really love to see the specs of Carter's system and how much power it really produced.

Call me stupid, but I will NEVER UNDERSTAND why we don't have turbines on the ocean floor between us and Maui. There is a constant, unidirectional flow of water in that channel that could turn turbines an no cost but maintenance of the turbines and power lines. We currently have the most expensive electricity in the country and we could have the cheapest with that single source. Somebody smarter than me, get out there and make it happen. Maybe you can get rich doing it!

Without government subsidies, solar is not economical.

Neither is oil or coal which also get government subsidies and cause other expensive problems that are real but not included in the out of pocket costs at time of purchase. The real shame in Hawaii is that we could easily power the state with geothermal. Not doing so makes about as much sense as Texas not making use of the oil reserves there.

The 32 InterTechnology solar panels the Carter administration had installed were solar hot water, the most efficient use of older solar technology, esp. in mid latitudes. These panels were still working in 1986 when dismantled during a re-roofing project, and were never re-installed. 16 of them are still supplying hot water at Unity College Cafeteria in Maine (acquired after sitting in a storage facility for years)
Sci American article from over a year ago on these panels:

ETA: Ocean Turbine technology is still in its infancy & the Alenuihaha Channel is one of the more 'risky' areas for doing any maintenance and most working ocean turbines are more adapted to tidal currents.... and most turbines do raise a whole lot of aquatic life concerns, esp in an area of endangered species migration....

I own some property in Pepeekeo. A stream runs along the property line. I'm having a mini hydro electric system installed in the stream that will generate enough power to run the home I'm building.

The unit is quite inexpensive and much cheaper than having HELCO bring power lines and poles onto the property.

Green enough for you?

Regarding Thomas Pyle's anti-solar-energy comments, one need only consider the source. The Institute for Public Research, of which he is president, is a denier of global warming and a front for the oil industry, from which it receives significant funding. Its CEO is a former director of public relations for Enron.

Thanks for pointing that out, Dave.
