I am in support of this bill passing.
The last public comment period for the Plastic Bag Reduction Bill (Bill 17, draft 2) is happening in Kona on Tues., Nov 15th.
If you cannot be there in person, submit your written testimony to the Council email (counciltestimony@co.hawaii.hi.us) or fax (808/961-8912) by Mon., Nov 14th @ noon!
Sometimes it has helped me to see an example letter.
An example letter is provided below care of Dr. Hank Carson:
"I am writing to voice my support for Bill 17, Draft 2: Plastic Bag Reduction. As a resident of the island, I am alarmed at the number of “disposable” plastic bags I see on island streets, beaches and waters. I know that these bags kill and injure wildlife, including endangered and protected species, and easily disintegrate into persistent fragments that have potentially grave consequences for human health and the environment. Existing litter laws are not
preventing these impacts; more needs to be done. The convenience of plastic bags, used on average for a few minutes, is not worth the risk to our island’s health for decades to come. I urge you to vote “yes” on this bill."
