Does anyone know if SIRIUS XM Satelite Radio is available in Puna/Hilo/Big Island? I can't seem to get a straight answer from the company.

TIA,

Last I heard Andrew, they didn't have a sat. to give coverage to the islands.... not enough people to warrant the cost of the sat.

Sirius received FCC approval to install repeaters that would bring Sirius/XM to Honolulu temporarily, but I think that trial has already ended. Sirius has also requested FCC permission to reposition satellites to offer better coverage to the West Coast and also bring service to Alaska and Hawaii, but as far as I know, that hasn't been approved yet. So for now, as far as I know, the only way to get Sirius/XM here is via their on-line service or on a mobile device using wi-fi or a cellular connection.

Just in case one of your reasons for wanting Sirius/XM is listening to Howard Stern, be advised that he is there only Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays most weeks now AND he gets 10 weeks off a year so one doesn't heard him as much these days.

Its not a bad gig for him though considering he still makes over $100 million a year.

I use to subscribe to the internet service (http://www.siriusxm.com/internetradio). If you have a smartphone, you can listen on the go.

You'll probably hear even less of Stern bc word is he'll be the new judge on America's Got Talent. Personally, I'm all for it. Bring on the acrobats who paint while on trampolines. Bring on the gross-out magicians and singing cows. http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/12/15/howard...ot-talent/ (sorry for the totally not puna related thread digression)

I hear you for the need for good radio. Nothing good in the car since KHBC went off the air. Here's hoping Chaparral Broadcasting -who bought KHBC last month - brings back similar programming. oo-la-la-ay-oh

Stern will still be on Sirius as much as he is on now. They are moving the whole Americas Got Talent show to New York from Los Angeles so Howard can do both shows.
