Greetings, I am Julie Grimmer and just moved into our new home today. Our Hilo address is 15.1468. 14th Avenue HPP and we just came from Alaska with our wonderful cat Pippin. Today he was able to break through our screen door and we are unable to locate him. He is a stiped brown tabby cat, approx 14 lbs with a brown nose with shades of red. He does respond to his name, Pippin. Please, if you see him, give us a call on our cell phone. 907-821-1700. He travelled so well from Southeast Alaska and know he is confused.
SIncerely,
Julie & Greg Grimmer

So sorry to hear that Julie. I know the stress. Thinking good thoughts that he knows where home is.
Is he wearing a tag with his phone number?
Well now you have a reason to go talk to all your neighbors.
People here are used to wild cats coming around, so they may see him and ignore him if they don't know he is a lost pet.
Good luck! Be hopeful.
I had one go missing three days last fall. She turned up and was not even far, just had gotten in a fight and responded by laying low in the bamboo right in the yard. She didn't respond when called, and I thought she was gone, but she wasn't. Sometimes cats get weirded out and ignore you until they decide they are ready to come back in the fold. Especially if they have been locked in and know you will confine them again. They have no idea what we suffer when they are missing.

Im sure he will come home soon. Cats...even misplaced....have a good sense of where their owners (next meal) are. But just to be forewarned....When it gets dark..the buffo toads come out in force...and they are very poisonous to cats if bitten into. A local cat will know not to mess with it....but a cat from Alaska will not. Hopefully you'll find him before the sun goes down.

Aloha Julie,
I had the same thing happen last time I moved. Here's what I learned. A really scared cat will stay put and quiet in the day but come out just after dark. I found my girl just after dark the day after she got loose right in some bushes by the house. I had to be real still to get her to come because she was so freaked out. Try calling just after dark - also late late at night when its really quiet is a good time to call. Best of luck to you - I bet your cat comes back.
That's what happened with my cat too. She hung out in the bushes all day, then crept closer to the house, wanting her food. She wouldn't let me go to her. At least I knew she was alive.
I have a cat door, so I set it so it wouldn't go both ways and let her out once she came in. The reason she was like this was I had shut her in for some time to treat her wounds. She doesn't like being shut in and won't come near if she thinks we're out to confine her. Your cat may be feeling the same way at this point ... but he won't be happy out there alone for too long.

leaving some favorite food out - just behind said door may entice kitty to may an appearance - good luck

Have you asked your new neighbors for sitings? Or let them know what he looks like? Can you leave a few things around that would smell like kitty if he gets close? I had a rescue cat freak out when I left a house sitter with him. Took him six weeks to get close enough to grab him and stuff him inside. Like turning on a light bulb, once inside he was 100% back with us, regular in and out, etc. So weird. We brought our cats with us, and were terrified they would do something stupid. Did you notify the Humane Society? With a chip number they can get a hold of you only by that info. Have you updated it?
I hope you get your guy back soon. Hope he's purring, as I type.

Since this thread is about missing cats...my neighbor on 5th St off of Makuu toward the dead end in HPP lost a orange and white calico about 5 days ago. Approx 7 years old. If anyone has seen her...or has her....please respond on here. Her owner is worried sick about her.
Thinking good thoughts!
Radiopeg's advice about the chips is good. Always be sure the HS has current info. They will scan for the chip right away.
If you lose a cat that isn't chipped, contact HS ASAP to let them know, as their track record keeping unchipped cats is not good.
Having a personalized tag for the collar with your phone number is great if kitty wanders and is found.
Unfortunately, with those breakaway collars, those tags get lost when the collar snags on something -- at least mine do. But theoretically it would be good for them always to have their phone number at minimum.
I hope Julie and macuu will let us know. I really do feel the pain ... been there.

Happy ending here. My neighbors cat finally returned yesterday.
