If you can deal with a little bit of up front latency, perhaps this is the system for you. I'm not sure a VPN could run over such a connection. Regardless, spreading the word, I imagine this could be big for some Puna users way out in the sticks.

Thanks for the info. I've had the StarBand system for a couple of months now and I'm pretty disappointed.

I think it's worth about $17.95 per month.

Just tested on speedtest.net and it says .17 down and .07 up

And now.......29 and .08

Yeah, we just got Starband. Our friends have it here in the same subdivision. They get close to 1 meg download. We vary from .28 to .66. I'm calling to complain. Again. Today's excuse was "load balancing" and was told it would get better. So far it just got worse. At least the Mi-fi gizmo didn't suck our power down like this satellite modem does. I wonder what the up front cost this new service will have.
