I'm surprised this wasn't posted long ago!
Got my ticket yesterday. [8D]
Bought the eponymous Hot Tuna album as soon as it was released (1970?), but never did see them live. (Saw the Airplane 4 times from 67-69, but never HT.)

The ticket price was an ouch, but oh well. I wish I could see Dave Nelson too.

Lazer Bear Productions presents
JORMA KAUKONEN & CHRIS SMITHER in concert

Jorma Kaukonen - In a career that has already spanned nearly a half-century, Jorma Kaukonen has been the leading practitioner and teacher of fingerstyle guitar, one of the most highly respected interpreters of American roots music, blues, and Americana, and at the forefront of popular rock-and-roll. He was a founding member of two legendary bands; The Jefferson Airplane and the still-touring Hot Tuna.

Chris Smither - A modern master of acoustic folk blues, renowned for his driving finger style guitar and understated vocals. Now in his fourth decade as a performer, Chris is an acclaimed singer-songwriter, whose career spans 12 albums and three DVDs.

NEW YORK TIMES: ÒWith a weary, well-traveled voice and a serenely intricate finger picking style, Mr. Smither turns the blues into songs that accept hard-won lessons and try to make peace with fate.Ó

ASSOCIATED PRESS: ÒWith Smither, the singer-songwriter craft remains in good hands.Ó

A great time!
Now I have the concert jones again, I want to see David Nelson next weekend!

hare, any special reason you are going to Hawi instead of Pahoa?

I hear they are setting up seats outside, but not sure what the plan is in case it rains, or if there is a plan.

Either one is a drive for me, but Hawi is certainly a long drive home.

Kathy, I did post it in my January listing for the Palace & we did go!!!

What fun!!! (though the group we were with were really noticing how OLD we all looked....WHAT HAPPENED to all of our hair???? I certainly do NOT remember getting this old!)

the hare,
oh, well that makes perfect sense if you live in Waikoloa!

You did indeed include the event, Carey. Somehow I missed it when I scanned the list. Oh well, I think that a "name" group that is not typically in Hawai'i deserves a topic of its own.

Yeah, I noticed the predominance of gray hair too, we were talking about it in line. I noticed a few young guys with long hair, and was thinking, that's how my peers used to look when I went to see music in the old days.

I don't remember ever thinking I was GETTING old so much as noticing all of a sudden that I had arrived! Although my graying hair is still confined to a lock at the front and just in front of my ears. [Wink] Old and time-worn, but not gray or bald ...

I had a great time, and it was worth a little extra to sit in front so that I could see the finger-work clearly. Jorma is a master of his craft.
