Fred Blas vs Greggor IIagan
#11
How can any one say James Weatherford did not take a position on issues? He seemed to have a well thought out position on every issue with a long often technical explaination of why he held that position.

Greggor is also taking positions after talking with people and researching them. If he dosn't know something he says so, how refreshing, and will patiently listen to all you have to say, also refreshing. By the next time you see him he has done his homework and can discuss it with you, with facts and considered opinions from both points of view. He learns very fast and connects with people naturally, which is important as a peoples representative.

How do you define "highly qualified"?

James Weatherford has a PhD in economics, has worked in developing countries around the world, he teaches at the University, and is a local farmer. He has been involved with numerious community groups.

Greggor Ilagan grew up on the Big Island. He put in six years in the Air National Guard, trained in satellite telemetry and radio communications. He is persuing a degree in accounting and was working for the University as a web site developer before seeking office. He is full of energy and hence energizes young people to get involved.

Fred Blas devoted a lifetime to changing tires, (apparently a huge plus for a candidate in Puna). He has tirelessly (no pun intended) leaned on tis truck and watched people clean up along the road in Puna for many years.

I am curious what qualities you seek.

Voters are funny aren't they?
Assume the best and ask questions.

There are those who thought Kennedy was too young to be president....

I think it is great that people of Greggor's age, and Zendo Kern's age are getting involved. As the leading edge of the baby boomers head towards 70, it is time for us to take our hands off the steering wheel and let another generation learn to drive the bus.

The HPP Board of Directors voted 5-4 not to donate the 20 acres for a park at their meeting last Wednesday. You had to be there to believe how wierd it was.

The same goes for HPP roads. They are private roads in a private subdivision. If the county were to take over the paving of roads in HPP they would also have to accept responsibility for every road on the Big Island.

As for being accessible,Fred's phone number is listed on his website.I called to talk to him about an issue and he returned my call.I have also spoken to him at the VFW breakfast in Nanavale. There is one this Sunday the 19th.

I believe it is in Puna's best interest to re-elect Fred.A one and done council person does us no good at all.I believe Fred has learned some lessons and will apply them if re-elected.

Your opinions may vary.

If I had been the councilperson in the situation with the HPPOA Board I would have reminded them of their responsibility to their and consequently my constituency. The HPPOA Community Action Committee was responsible for a HPP Master Plan which was voted for with the majority of lot owners in HPP in favor of parks ('97 version). I would also have clarified items of contention between county and board to get it resolved so that the largest and most populated subdivision in Puna could get a park. The park would have been a done deal.
There are currently two parcels of land in Paradise Park which the county owns and is designated park land which they have not developed. I would hold their feet to the fire to get those areas developed. There are bicycle paths in Puna that need to be developed and Puna is underserved in all ways by the county. Fred has done extremely little and I expect Greggor will do much much better because I believe he will take action on items he understands will be important to people of Puna.
I don't think it should have taken 2 years and a threat to lose his job for Fred to have learned a lesson.
kind regards,

John
