How about this kauna'oa vine,

I read about it here -

http://books.google.com/books?id=n-OESYDpr6wC&pg=PA58&lpg=PA58&dq=native+hawaiian+plants+to+rid+weeds&source=bl&ots=XBcPiY92CM&sig=icVsxyPWtD8RiXuW3pjruRZWTrY&hl=en&sa=X&ei=-CrOULPbDa35igKNoIDYBw&ved=0CEQQ6AEwBQ

And if the Kauna'oa gets out of control, which it will after a while, you can make leis by twisting, doubling and twisting again. At this time of year, you can make long garlands and stick other plant materals (flowers, ferns, etc.) in it. Afterward, grind and compost.

It's really pretty! I'm going to keep an eye out for some. From what I read it looks like it grows near the ocean? I'm up on 40th in OrchidLand so I wonder if I'll have trouble growing it?

the native (endemic) dodder (Cuscuta sandwichiana) is closer to ocean usually and more orange (often growing on naupaka)... the grennish/orange stuff (Cuscuta campestris) in trees in lower HPP etc is the non-native invasive dodder. I would NEVER introduce either parasitic dodder to your property, you have to kill the host plants to get rid of it

save our indigenous and endemic Hawaiian Plants... learn about them, grow them, and plant them on your property, ....instead of all that invasive non-native garbage I see in most yards... aloha
