Thats a great idea gypsy, I have seen some lots for sale for as little as a few thousand dollars. Would it be impossible to raise enough money to buy an acre and create a park ?

First of all, there are some parks in HPP (beach parks).
Secondly, no lots in HPP sell for "a few thousand dollars". Thirdly, you would have to fence this proposed lot and deal with the inevitable complaints from neighbors about the traffic, noise and smell. Very generous of you Oneself, please let us know when this park is up and running!

My dogs run loose quite often, are well trained, and stay in my unfenced yard.
I've had new neighbors who walked their own unleashed dogs past my place and their dogs ran into my yard which resulted in my oldest and alpha female running down and putting one of their dogs on its back, without biting... The new neighbor yelled at me saying that there's a leash law! No ****, and if their dog hadn't entered my yard their dog wouldn't have got dirty. Ergo if their dogs had been leashed there would not have been an issue. Damned hypocrites, act like the laws are for everyone except themselves. Now I keep my dogs in the house a lot and walk them on leashes... So much for the good old days... Welcome to "we brought our ways to your home, now do as we say!" "Life is labor, and all that is good in life comes from that labor..."
MBB, I've had bull dogs ever since I was a kid, and so did a lot of my friends, and the dogs were pedigreed dogs with lines that went back longer than I've been alive, and there was no big scare over "pitbulls" biting people because the responsible breeders selectively bred their dogs for being non aggressive towards people. I was taught to love my dogs, and if you love your dog you're going to make sure they're well trained, as well as not be a threat to your neighborhood. However, all that goes out the window when you, or yours, enters my property. "Life is labor, and all that is good in life comes from that labor..."

Hello again,
When I was a kid we had off leash "owned" dogs, stray dogs and scary feral dogs....even feral dog/coyote crossbreeds in our neighborhood. I grew up at the edge of a rough city in Michigan with entire abandoned blocks. Though my Father never wanted guns in the house when I was a child, most of the neighbors had guns. I was chased by a pack of wild dogs once when I was 7. My bacon was saved when the local policeman saw me, pulled over and killed one of the pack with his service weapon. Our neighbors routinely shot these animals. My sister was attacked and bitten in the face (luckily not seriously) when she was playing in my Aunt/Uncles backyard and a feral dog attacked her while she was in the sandbox (she was 4). My Uncle kept a rifle nearby and after beating the dog off my sister, he and a neighbor grabbed their rifles and headed out after the pack. They killed 4 of them. My neighbors here in Hawaii have no problem "dispatching" feral pigs; I never understood the hesitation to do so with feral, violent, dogs. I would never want a rehabilitated "previously violent" dog in my house. Ever. They aren't people. We need to stop thinking of them as such. I am nor minimizing the responsibility of pet ownership and look down on those who view pets as "disposable" as much as the biggest pet lover out there. I just know, growing up in Michigan, how frightening packs of wild loose dogs can become. A classmate was horribly disfigured, children and grown adults were killed. Local Police took to shooting feral packs on site. Our city never had the funds to deal with the problem of loose dogs back then. In a very short time, these packs became everyone's problem and the people of the city had to deal with it themselves. Believe me. You don't want your kids to grow up with images of dead dogs and frightened people. I am not saying it scarred my sisters and I, but that it is something I wish we didn't have to see when we were that young. Make of my story what you will, but it's a simple cautionary tale. There is a dog park at the Humane Society ... "Bark Park" -- It's fenced and divided into two-- one side for small dogs and the other for large dogs.

rule one among reputable breeders is to remove any "line" that shows any tendency to touch tooth to human skin
hard mouth dogs also take a different approach than soft mouth - what works on one could ruin the other - physical punishment guaranteed to produce dangerous dogs hard or soft mouth There are gun laws in place - shoot a dog - rightly or wrongly - expect a visit from the cops wanting to see the registration of said weapon as the neighbors will drop a dime at the first pop It seems to take a special kind of person to socialize a terrier in my opinion....it takes a partnership to do a dogs drive to please justice. |
