What is this beach and how do I get to it?
#11
We hiked there soon after we moved here in Sept. 2011. A lady that had been there kind of led the way. It was very muddy ( think we went in October that year?). The friend did one fall in the mud. There were loads of mud puddles, knarly tree roots all over, so, you really had to plan your steps, and the routes around the big puddles. You can go to thye beach, but not onto the Shipman's property, and you will see caretakers there to make sure. The lady that led the way said there are, or can be treacherous currents and such there, and was opviously very concerned about some people that were wading around in the area. It is a gorgeous beach with sea turtles hanging around. I'd heard it was a couple miles each way, and it was a long couple miles due to the muddy, and slpipery conditions. Do go, but leave early. You've seen how fast it goes from daylight to dusk to pitch black here. Take water and some snakes, and have fun!! We saw a mountain bike rider that showed up soon after we got there. I'm pretty sure it's not legal to ride a bike there??

Yea Seeb that's what I was going to add to this thread too. Happy, joy, beautiful trip to the beach but that all ends when you return to your car with a smashed side window and the interior ransacked. In fact last time I went by there, (that small parking area) there was evidence of car glass scattered about. Makes it inconvenient to visit that beautiful place. If you have good cell reception it could be a drop-off/ pick up mission with a buddy driver who stays back. Hmm maybe befriend a resident and pay them $5 to park in their yard?

Friends who live on the Kona side and visit remote beaches in the area say they always leave the windows rolled down. In 30 years they have never had a break in.
