The newsletter sounds optimistic, but questions remain. Twenty miles of roads were indeed scraped in March (I think "graded" is an overstatement, since they weren't crowned and drainage issues weren't considered) but unfortunately they have subsequently reverted to their previous pock-marked condition. Anyone who drives Orchidland Drive knows that potholes have not been regularly addressed, as stated in the newsletter.. And it's my understanding that the firm hired to do the chip seal replacement is the same firm that botched the repair work at the intersection of 36th and Orchidland a few years back. Despite warnings from several members with knowledge of past history, the Board has contracted for this company to install a "proprietary emulsion". I hope it all works out...

Maybe more lawsuits will fix the problem?

Orchidland Neighbors would love to use the community lot. We went to the BOD, had a special meeting and a vote of yes however it just didn't turn out the way we had hoped in working together. Some of the Board Members think they own the lot and not the general membership. ON started the 501c3 just so we could apply for grants that 501c4's can't apply for. To save the community money is our intention on having to take money out of their pockets monthly. There are grant funds out there for programs, for road improvements, utilities, etc. If you can convince the BOD to allow ON to build on that lot; that would be great. Seems like OLCA has enough to do with just managing the roads. I don't think we're disgruntled. We just are tired of waiting for our community center. That's all. Not being allowed as OLCA members to use the lot we all own was a set back to the community. So we have to move forward. We submitted a grant for $400,000 and it needed to be attached to land in order for us to just submit the application. We also had the opportunity to have the county acquire the land. However they would have been able to control the times and terms of operations. We need more land than 2 acres to be able to provide community needs from recreation to meeting space. ON has started a food basket program. We had 75 families we served this past month and are up to 125 families already for distribution in Feb. We wanted to use the community lot for that as well. We need a space to provide community programs. Mahalo for your conversation. Please let us know when we can use the community lot. Neighborhood Watch needs a space, OLCA needs a space, CERT needs a space. There are other community programs as well in case of emergency of natural disasters. Aloha
