Facebook Big Island Thieves site Help find thieves

I don't understand the "I refuse to join Facebook" crowd. All of us who post here have joined this forum. You're already a joiner.

The reason I don't understand, is that you can join Facebook with a disposable email address, fake name, fake city, fake everything. So don't join Facebook, let your fake doppelganger join it and then you can finally see pictures of your niece's baby or find out which street the criminals are casing today.

Some of the posts on BIT are a little too overreactive to me, someone reported the newspaper delivery girl for Maku'u side of HPP as a thief casing houses and then refused to believe it when informed of the truth. Shared intelligence is only useful if it is accurate and timely.

Great, ahem, it reads like a teenage forum sprinkled with a few intelligent helpful posts. But if the kids can help that's a very good thing.

Yeah, it's somewhat useful if you actually have something stolen or see someone suspicious. But if you follow it all the time you'll get the impression that Hilo is the most crime-ridden place in the world, and there's a disturbing number of pretty psycho people who thinks they're justified in shooting anyone who gives them stinkeye.

ETA: also, a lot of the thieves themselves seem to follow it, so be aware of that. Some have showed up to defend themselves even in the face of obvious evidence (i.e. not like the paper girl; and sometimes preemptively!), and as noted here, Scottie Yanagawa was mouthing off there just an hour or so before getting in the shootout.

Much agree with MR right above.

A shout out to my good neighbor and his dogs. A poor renter abandoned my house in Kapoho 8 months ago and not a thing went missing. Windows open, door open and only the geckos got inside. It's nice to have watchful neighbors with a noisy dog. I owe him a 12 pack or supper.

I'd say supper, bones and belly rubs for the dog, and a six pack as a parting gift for that good of a neighbor!
