What? I'm 63, recently injured my right knee, have an acre in HPP. My ancient Craftsman riding mower broke down, and I mow with a push mower (with driven front wheel) limping all the way. Should I make a bid to mow that soccer field?

OK, so maybe I was a little over the top on the manpower, but not too far off on the time. Figure a four hour job at 20 minutes a day equals out to 12 days "labor" for one employee, if those statistics are correct. Condense it to one day would need 12 employees each working 20 minutes to complete. To be realistic in their "visible work time" you will have to consider their "administration" time, which is filling out the job card once complete, picking up the job card, staff meetings, etc.. Then add their drive time from the corporation yard to the actual park needing the maintenence, and coming back. Then add fuel up time, washing of equipment time, filling out repair orders, on and on.
It still is a pretty cushy job if you have somebody in Parks and Recreation to get you in, and once you pass probation you can mow until 65 or 70 years of age as long as you can load and unload the mower and still be able to climb aboard. Imagine if you had the field in Hilo as your main account!

get real!
I was a county worker for a few years.. you all are totally clueless on how much REAL WORK a County Worker actually does...
fwiw I used to singlehandedly mow 4-6 large lake/sport parks in an 8 hr day.... all after drinking morning coffee, then cleaning the county jail courthouse/parking lot and county admin building area of trash in morning... and after mowing getting back in time to clean mower and put it and trailer away and fill out time cards...

Luxury ! Sheer Luxury ! When I worked for county, we'd spend all day at the bottom of a lake, cleaning rocks with our tongues. Lunch was a handful of hot gravel, followed by a whack on the head from the foreman. 29 hours a day, 7 days a week. Try and tell that to kids these days, though. Think they'd believe it ? Hah.

Please don't take offense Bananahead, I noted IF the statistics are correct. There is a lot more than an employees "visible time" as I noted with "other duties". When I worked for the City as an employee, people would call and say I was "slacking off" at a park, when in reality I was taking a quick restroom break.

Same same when I worked at the UH. Get plenty complaints when I go break or lunch. Management knew the score though, so no worrries.
