If you like excellent quality beer and have more time than money, try homebrewing. The beginner method will cost about 50% of what a comparable beer in the store would cost. Advanced method costs about 25% and is incredibly good. Brew Hawaii in Hilo has everything you need. Equipment, supplies, ingredients, and information.

Kim - non-draft beer is actually taxed slightly more, assuming an average of 5% alcohol ($0.186 per % vs. $0.115 for wine and $0.15 for liquor).

Tried brewing my own beer quite a few years ago with mixed results. I've always wanted to try again, so thanks for the info 2 cents, but will admit my relationship with organic chemistry has been a poor one to date.
