What the hell is going on?

"How many of us carry a machete in the vehicle?"

A lone attacker armed with a machete won't get quite the body count that a good old assault rifle will.

The gun laws in Hawaii make it so difficult for people to buy assault rifles, I suggest anyone who wants one, or likes to see them in schools, consider taking up residence on the mainland where your god given rights are better respected.

Sorry if I don't know the jargon of gun lovers, I have better things to do with my time.
Whatever that guy in Florida (and every other recent massacre) was so easily able to buy and slaughter people so easily, that's what I mean.

Fertilizer isn't quite the same, I'm sure even you can understand that.

AR stands for ArmaLite folks.

you can apparently mimic a bumpstock with very little effort.

You can use your belt loop to do the same thing. Should we ban belt loops too?

A lot of interesting discussion. So what has changed?

I have to agree with fishenjim, I would not at all be surprised if most of these mass murders were on some type of prescription medication and that that tidbit of info is being kept quite. Prescription meds are much more common than they used to be.

I would also venture a guess that most of these mass murders are from broken/single parent homes. Another thing that is much more common these days.

Regarding other comments:
knieft - "Do you mean automatic military weapons? Semi-automatic? Bump stocks?"
I assume you are one of the folks here that understands that "assault rifle" does not have a technical definition. For all others - It has different definitions in different jurisdictions. It some cases it is simply because the gun 'looks scary' (no I'm not joking).

HOTPE - "and will move on to another activity if any amount of effort is required."
I'm not sure another activity would be chosen rather then just another weapon.

leilanidude and JustinK -
Both of my husbands (ex and current) grew up in areas where they took guns to school so they could hunt on the way there or the way back. In Conneticut (ex-husband) they gave them to the principle in he morning and picked them up when school was out. No problems. My current hubby was in the shooting club in HS in Calif.

glinda - If you realize you are not mature enough to own a gun then thank you for not having one. Please do not project that immaturity one everyone else.

Yes, it is the same according to your definition.

You are advocating the ban of all semi-automatic guns. Fair enough.

Cheers,

Many students had guns in their cars when I went to high school. Most were in pickup trucks - openly visible in the gun rack in the truck's back window. We had no shootings or threats to do so. The problem is not the guns. It is the parents and children.

Yes! The problem is people. Agreed. People with GUNS! Take away their guns and wow.. they can be angry, they can be violent, they can lash out, they can do whatever they want but they won't be able to kill.. not like they do today.

And, your point that people USED to do blah blah blah. Today things are different. America is less mature, dumber, and by all measures emotionally under-developed. And again, if you want to own a gun, in todays world, you are sick. Yes even those that just want to go out on the back 40 and shoot a few rodents. At this point that is sick! Grow up already.
