As for dan_d, yes, us Brits are all power crazy and spit on anyone foreign. We all wear bespoke suits and drive Jaguars as well. It's a little known fact. Really.

Hawaiian Homes Commission Chairman William J. Aila responded in a statement today that law enforcement officials have notified the activists that the structure is unpermitted.

State Attorney General Clare E. Connors said today the state is aware of the structure, and “the state is looking into whether there have been any lawful means undertaken in building this and erecting it on this parcel of property.”

“To date, we have found nothing to indicate that it has received permits, that it has received any permission, and as far as the state is concerned, it appears to be an unauthorized structure that will have to be removed,” Connors said. She said state officials became aware of the structure over the Labor Day weekend.

But does it comply with IECC standards?

I don't see any solar hot water heater, either.

In an apparent split within the protest movement, the Royal Order of Kamehameha I issued a statement that it does not “endorse or sanction” the building. The Royal order established the puuhonua or place of refuge at Puu Huluhulu

Isn’t the place of refuge a sacred site? Can they desecrate build on a sacred site?

Mayor Harry Kim told Hawaii News Now the county doesn’t know who built it so the property owner, the Department of Hawaiian Homelands, is responsible and could be fined more than $1,000 per day.

This should be "entertaining".

I applaud Hawaiians taking a stand and building on their lands. Abolish the DHHL and give all that land directly to the people to build as they see fit. Let that freedom and ingenuity become the model for the rest of rural Hawaii island. Just get the **** out of the road and you have my support.
